Billionaire Elon Musk has voiced his support for the US leaving NATO on X, saying that “it makes no sense for the US to pay for Europe’s defense”.

Specifically, in a post early in the morning of March 9 (US time) on social network X, billionaire Elon Musk reposted an article with the content that the US needs to “leave NATO *immediately*!”.
In his post, the SpaceX founder wrote, “We really should. It makes no sense for the US to pay to defend Europe .”

This is not the first time that Mr. Musk – who is often known as an advisor on streamlining the apparatus and optimizing the budget of President Donald Trump’s administration – has expressed support for Washington leaving NATO.
Earlier, on March 3, the Tesla executive announced on social network X that he agreed with the view of a conservative analyst who said the US should leave NATO and the United Nations.
“I agree,” Mr. Musk frankly expressed his opinion on the analyst’s proposal.

On President Trump’s side, NBC News reported on March 6 that the US leader is discussing with advisers about adjusting the level of US participation in NATO in a way that benefits the members of this alliance.
In an interview with US media the same day, Mr. Trump said he told NATO allies that if they did not pay, Washington would not protect them.
“That’s common sense, right? If they don’t pay, I’m not going to defend them. No, I’m not going to defend them,” the White House chief told reporters in the Oval Office.
In addition, Mr. Trump suggested that NATO would “have good potential” if the issue of increasing defense spending was resolved.
The above moves by billionaire Musk and Mr. Trump have raised questions about the future of NATO, an organization that is about to celebrate its 76th anniversary next April.
